The paint leveled out overnight. It’s fairly orange peeled but at least now it’s a consistent orange peel. Going to have to take care of the overspray on the wheels but I Have Something For That (tm). After a couple days of curing I’m going to hand-buff it with Mequire’s Ultimate Compound, which has seen great success polishing rolled-on Rustoleum paint jobs so I hope it can give a bit of shine to my ghetto-sprayed one.

Annoyingly, now that the car’s all one color I can see how dinged up the bodywork is. Ugh.

What’s nice about paint is that it also makes a good primer (paint sticks well to paint). So whenever you want to re-spray it you can just sand down and fix the last few mistakes. I actually practiced paint repair on my own riv. But I got lucky and had a black one and GM uses the same gloss black for everything. A bit of clearcoat and wet sanding really brought it back.

Paint always looks better in photos. It needs some serious massaging before it’s passable but, hey, looks decent from a block away :D

The lighting contributes somewhat but it is definitely a bit darker now. There’s the putrid odor of Rustoleum anywhere within 3 feet of the car and the paint still isn’t hard enough to buff because it’s been so cold and humid. Probably going to be a couple weeks before I have any significant updates on this thing.
